Mammoth Cave (Kentucky)

Mammoth Cave (Kentucky)

We always wanted to visit Mammoth Cave. It came in highly recommended from our friends. The problem was we got inexpensive tickets to Milwaukee and it is about an eight hour drive from there. We were all in the mood for a road trip and we just decided to do it.

When we reached Indiana, the roads were closed due to an accident.

When we reached Lafayette we thought of dropping the idea to go to Mammoth cave. The skies grew dark, there was thunder and lightning and it started to pour. We were sure that we couldn't continue driving under these circumstances but then the Sun God came out and there was absolutely no problem with the weather after that. My husband gave us inspiration that we must reach the cave at night and off we went. We reached Mammoth cave at around 10 PM exactly 12 hours after we had started.
As the name suggests, Mammoth Caves is the world's longest cave. It is so long that if you combine the world's second longest and third longest caves' it would be still longer by over a 100 miles.
